notes from
the MUCK . . .

How does your garden grow? With muck, muck and more muck! I spent much of today finishing the final muck box and then shifting muck from one box to the next. The first box, which the Big Lad is enthusiastically pointing out, has been rotting down for two years now and once we’d removed the top quarter of unrotted material, we found we’d hit the pay dirt.

DJ Mike Relm

Jeff and I caught this guy last night opening for Del the Funkee Homosapien at Starr Hill. Neither of us had ever heard of him, but I think it's fair to say that we both thought he stole the show. I'm not usually a great fan of scratching; it has to be really well done for me to appreciate it. Well, this was:

But what was even cooler was that he uses some sort of turntable that allows him to scratch video as well as music. So he put up a small movie screen and treated us to scratches of everything from Pee Wee's Big Adventure to Scarface to Office Space to Led Zeppelin live. I looked for a good YouTube clip that would give you the idea. None were great, but this sample of Rage Against the Machine's Bulls On Parade is somewhat representative.

I'll be picking up the guy's CD and DVD as soon as I can get some money together. If he comes your way, it's a show not to be missed.
