notes from
the MUCK . . .

How does your garden grow? With muck, muck and more muck! I spent much of today finishing the final muck box and then shifting muck from one box to the next. The first box, which the Big Lad is enthusiastically pointing out, has been rotting down for two years now and once we’d removed the top quarter of unrotted material, we found we’d hit the pay dirt.

Quick! Where's Frances?

This has to be my favorite story of the new year so far:
Foul Odor Permeates Parts of Manhattan, N.J.

A foul odor blanketed lower Manhattan and parts of New Jersey today, prompting a brief transit shutdown, a rash of building evacuations. . .

"There is a large area of New Jersey and Manhattan that has this smell," [New York City Mayor] Bloomberg said. "The smell is there. We don't know the source of it. It does not appear to be dangerous."
