notes from
the MUCK . . .

How does your garden grow? With muck, muck and more muck! I spent much of today finishing the final muck box and then shifting muck from one box to the next. The first box, which the Big Lad is enthusiastically pointing out, has been rotting down for two years now and once we’d removed the top quarter of unrotted material, we found we’d hit the pay dirt.

For the past five or so Halloweens I've made an effort to watch as many horror movies as I can during the month of October. The falling leaves outside, the crisp bite to the air, the smell of Fall; it all reminds me of one of the single happiest moments of my childhood - Watching John Carpenter's Halloween with my sister. Watching horror movies when the season turns makes me all warm and fuzzy inside, even if it's getting harder and harder to find good stuff I haven't seen.

Enter Netflix. While there's still no substitute for browsing the shelves of an old fashioned brick and mortar video store, Netflix was a godsend in terms of selection. So as soon as October dropped I pushed everything in my queue down to make room for this year's horror lineup. I even solicited help from an expert, my buddy Paul. I entrusted him with my username and password and let him guest curate my list. The combined effort has led to the single greatest list of horror movies ever assembled.

OK, maybe not quite. With the exception of one film, I narrowed the selection to movies that I have not seen. Because I grew up on an unhealthy diet of scare flicks, it's hard to find quality stuff that makes the cut. With Paul's help however, I'm confident that it's going to be a good October.
